The Importance of Crafting Sequences of Contexts to Ensure Access and Equity
Friday June 13, 2025 8:00am - 8:50am EDT
Children are expected to solve problems in context according to the VA Standards of Learning. Using rich, open contextual problems is a good starting place for developing a community of young mathematicians, but is not sufficient for supporting the progressive development needed to meet the end-of-year objectives. Rather, using carefully crafted sequences of contexts that enable students to creatively generate big ideas, strategies and models is critical. Let’s examine how contexts can be used in sequences to make math accessible, engaging and fun!
